Summit Lake Re-route

Mission:  Develop and promote stewardship, restoration and maintenance projects for trails.

Project Dates:  August 2007-July 2008

Summary:   Island Trails Network partnered with the Kodiak Soil & Water Conservation District to reroute a trail that ran along the waterline along the east side of Summit Lake to the west side of the lake and farther upland. The project required the construction of six bridges over drainages that run into the lake as well as installation of approximately 700 feet of geoblock to stabilize the trail in areas prone to erosion and rutting. This project is not to be confused with the 2011-2012 effort to harden the 17-B easement portion of the trail on Leisnoi lands near the trailhead.

Funding Partners:  Kodiak Soil & Water Conservation District, SAGA

In-kind Partners:   USCG Air Station Kodiak
