Perenosa Trail
Mission: Create sustainable trail systems throughout the archipelago.
Project Dates: November 2012-August 2013
Summary: This project involves the construction of 1000' of improved trail that links residents of Katmai Drive and adjacent subdivisions to the Rezanof Drive multi-use path and the parks, schools and community assets it connects via the Perenosa Drive right-of-way. Parts of the Perenosa Drive right-of-way were platted but never fully developed as a street. With recent high-density development in the Woodland Acres subdivision, this trail has become an important neighborhood connection and seen increased use. The improvement of the parcel immediately to the west of the right-of-way by the Kodiak Christian School brought the future of the public right-of-way into sharp focus. After several community meetings among local stakeholders, the Kodiak Christian School and the Kodiak Island Borough Planning & Zoning Commission the future of this right-of-way was secured. This project is intended to improve the trail to meet current use patterns and ensure a sustainable tread surface of D-1 aggregate. The tread is compacted D1 gravel, and is 6' wide to accommodate two-way traffic for pedestrians, bicyclists, and strollers.
