Connecting Community
Mission: Develop and promote stewardship, restoration and maintenance projects for trails.
Project Dates: May 2015 -
Summary: In 2015 we embarked with project partner Interior Trails on a multi-year design and construction project to improve braided and ponded areas of the the Saltery Cove trail. This trail sees more motorized use than any other in the Kodiak Island Borough. It provides access to five salmon-bearing streams and tributaries, and hunting for deer, bear and goat. For trail enthusiasts, the trail system provides motorized and non-motorized opportunities for a wide range of user groups. For these reasons, the Saltery Cove trail is a long-standing favorite of trail users and trails enthusiasts.

Progress Made and Next Steps
Already, with the help of dozens of volunteers, Connecting Community has identified an existing route, identified needed improvements and cleared vegetation from all except 100' of the proposed trail. The next stage of construction requires the purchase of gravel for tread surfacing.
The near-term goal is to complete the path from the U.S.C.G main gate to Peterson Elementary School. Your donation will accomplish the following:
1 foot for $10
5 feet for $50
10 feet for $100
100 feet for $1000
If these categories don't quite fit you, any amount you wish to donate will help create a smile for path users.
All funds, less 10% for administration, will go DIRECTLY to fuel the construction of this trail. Any leftover funds at the end of 2019 will be applied toward continuing the path next Spring of 2020 from Lake Louise housing to the Peterson Elementary Path.
